READ & LEARN

Brave, curious, entirely herself.

On learning something new when nobody is grading you.

Brave, curious, entirely herself.

One of the quiet gifts of this stage of life is that nobody is grading you anymore. You can take the painting class, learn Italian or join the choir purely because you want to.

Be a beginner on purpose

Being bad at something new is uncomfortable for about three weeks. After that it is one of the most energizing feelings there is. Pick something you have always wondered about and sign up before you can talk yourself out of it.

Bring a friend, or make one

Classes are one of the best places to meet people you would never otherwise cross paths with. The woman at the next easel may become the friend you travel with next spring.

Keep a notebook

Write down what you are learning, the questions you have and the small wins. It is lovely to look back at month one from month twelve.
